Activities This Autumn for Seniors and Families

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Autumn in New England is a special time of year. There are numerous festive seasonal activities that may get you in the spirit for fall as the weather starts to cool down and the leaves begin to change color. This autumn, we have some fantastic activity suggestions for you, your loved ones, clients, and friends.

  • Create a seasonal treat. The fall season is accompanied with a variety of scrumptious flavors. Apple Cider, Pumpkin Bread, Apple Crisp, Pumpkin Sugar Cookies, Pumpkin Pie, & Caramel Apples (whole apples or apple pieces). Bake or create your favorite.

  • Get creative! Decorate pumpkins. Go to pumpkin patches in your area and pick out your favorite gourds to carve or decorate. This is a must-have for the autumn season, and it screams festivity. So, if you're looking for some fall festival activities, try having a pumpkin-carving contest with family and friends. A fun alternative to carving pumpkins is to paint them and decorate them with craft tools like glitter, feathers, or fabric. Collect beautiful fall leaves and use them to make crafts like leaf pressing, leaf rubbings, or decorative garlands to decorate your living area. This is a rewarding hobby that can only be enjoyed in the fall. To relax and get in the spirit for fall, buy a new coloring book or print off some free coloring sheets. Make goodie bags for trick-or-treaters as you get ready for Halloween! Dollar stores, as well as stores like Walmart or Target, carry tiny toys and bags with fun themes.

  • Take advantage of the great outdoors! Take beautiful drives or day trips to see the changing fall colors. Be a bystander as autumn colors paint a real-life image of the stunning sceneries and pick up some cider or another fall delicacy! In Connecticut, the foliage usually peaks around October. Relax in an outside setting. If you have a deck or porch, wrap yourself up warm and spend some time relaxing outside. This is another way to appreciate the stunning fall scenery. Visiting a park and resting on a bench for a while might also be a good way to freshen things up and get some fresh air. Make a trip to a pumpkin patch or a cider mill. These are wonderful autumn day trips! Seasonal delights such as apple cider doughnuts and pumpkin bread are available at many pumpkin patches and cider mills.

  • Warm up inside! Unwind. Autumn may be a stressful season for many individuals. Take a break! Grab a fall beverage, cover up under a blanket, and get cozy. Play autumn games: Fun games to play include board games, card games, and word games. It will not only keep your mind sharp, but it will also get you in the holiday spirit! Watch a fall-themed film or television show. Among my favorites are Gilmore Girls, The Blind Side, and Hocus Pocus.
